The background of this study focuses on the decline in appreciation of traditional music among the younger generation, as well as the importance of preserving Saluang as a cultural heritage. The method used is descriptive qualitative with ethnographic research type, analyzing various sources such as scientific journals, books, and online articles. The results of the study show that Saluang has rich aesthetic values, reflected in its simple physical form, made of bamboo, and playing techniques that produce soft and melodious sounds. Saluang performances are often accompanied by poems that are full of philosophical meaning, adding a deep aesthetic dimension. The discussion highlights the interaction between visual form, playing techniques, and socio-cultural contexts that create a unique aesthetic experience. In conclusion, Saluang is not just a musical instrument but also a representation of the aesthetic and philosophical values of the Sumatran people, which need to be preserved to maintain cultural identity and increase the younger generation's appreciation of this heritage.
wasis wijayanto, Inesya Kalyana Tantri, Aurelia Cahya Fadhilatul Khalila (Author) Copyright (c) 2025 Wasis Wijayanto (Author) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jurnal.fib-unmul.id/mebang/article/view/169 Fri, 31 Oct 2025 00:00:00 +0100 The Appropriation of the Arts: Folk Song in Advertising, Film, and Beyond https://jurnal.fib-unmul.id/mebang/article/view/176
The use of traditional musical elements in production and consumption activities significantly impacts the formation of appropriation of musical artworks. The method used is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. Data were collected through literature study, documentation, and interviews, then analyzed using content analysis techniques. The results showed that four elements of Sundanese worldview - spiritual, social, moral, and life balance values - were implied in Mang Koko's lyrics that were born from a process of deep contemplation. Song lyrics do not only convey values, but are consciously arranged based on the cognitive and psychological development levels of listeners, ranging from children to the elderly. This shows the principle of humanity that Mang Koko holds dear. He instills normative values of Sundanese character early on through songs, making music an effective educational and cultural medium.

Abizar Algifari Saiful (Author) Copyright (c) 2025 Abizar Algifari Saiful (Author) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jurnal.fib-unmul.id/mebang/article/view/183 Fri, 31 Oct 2025 00:00:00 +0100 Bentuk dan Fungsi Gondang Buhun dalam Tradisi Ngarempug di Kasepuhan Ciptagelar/Gelaralam, Sukabumi https://jurnal.fib-unmul.id/mebang/article/view/190
The Gondang Buhun art of Kasepuhan Ciptagelar/Gelaralam is an art in the tradition of the ngarempug procession. The Sundanese tribe, originally from Java, migrated to Medan, a city characterized by its ethnic diversity. This diversity enriches the cultural landscape of Medan. This research explores the significance of the lyrics of Sawer Sunda (Sawer Penganten) within the context of wedding ceremonies in Medan. The primary focus of this study is to analyse the meaning of the Sawer Sunda lyrics (Sawer Penganten) in this urban setting. To conduct this analysis, the author employs Ferdinand de Saussure's theory. A qualitative research methodology is utilized to gather and collect data. Qualitative research is fundamentally naturalistic, as described by Dr. H. Zuchri Abdussammad, and is conducted in the field. The author undertook observations, interviews, and captured photographs or videos for data collection purposes. The findings of this study indicate that Sawer Sunda (Sawer Penganten) is a significant wedding custom among the Sundanese, serving as a means for parents to impart their advice to the bride and groom. The Sundanese events held in Medan maintain the philosophical values inherent to the Sundanese tribe's region of origin.

Erika Manalu, Torang Naiborhu, Vanesia Amelia Semayang (Author) Copyright (c) 2025 Erika Manalu, Torang Naiborhu, Vanesia Amelia Semayang (Author) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jurnal.fib-unmul.id/mebang/article/view/213 Fri, 31 Oct 2025 00:00:00 +0100
